There was a number of adaptations of ‘Oliver Twist’ for screen and stage, the most recent movie adaptation in 2005 by Roman Polanski.


Hard Times

The novel touches on the very important questions about the society, but in a simple way without hidden meanings. Charles Dickens’ novel, in his appraisal of the society, shows us the social and economic pressures of the Victorian era.
Hard Times was first published in 1854.


Bleak House

The plot is set around an inheritance case called Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce. The case has been in the courts (Court of Chancery, civil court) for generations. Esther Summerson, raised by her aunt, the main character, is later adopted by John Jarndyce (who also adopts two others, Ada and Richard). Lady Dedlock and her attorney Tulkinghorn are pivotal to the plot. Bleak House is really a fascinating piece of writing.
Bleak House was first published in 1852-1853.
